Peter's Fever Scare

Peter, one of our normally playful Boer goats, wasn’t acting like himself. Lethargic and clearly unwell, he was showing signs something was seriously wrong. Our team quickly checked his temperature—over 107°F! After confirming with multiple thermometers, we knew we needed help and called our vet immediately.

Road Trip to Recovery

Our vet advised an urgent trip to the university hospital. Sierra, our Sanctuary Supervisor, and Ella, one of our ranch hands, sprang into action, loading Peter into the trailer. To keep him calm, his momma Dorcas went along for the ride to Texas A&M.

Fighting Bronchopneumonia

Thankfully, Peter’s fever began to drop during the drive thanks to some early medication. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia. This condition makes it hard for the lungs to cool the body properly, which explained his dangerously high fever. The medical team started him on fever-reducing meds and antibiotics to heal his lungs.

Home Sweet Home

With care underway, Peter made a full recovery under supervision at home. Back at the ranch, Peter was joyfully reunited with Dorcas and Benjamin. The trio is now enjoying their new, cool accommodations complete with an air conditioner to help them stay comfortable on hot days.
