Meet Our Sanctuary Team

Our busy Sanctuary property is run by 8 employees, including degreed animal science team members, vet techs, ranch handlers, equine trainers and consummate animal advocates.

Our Sanctuary Manager, Elise Khan

Elise's passion for animal care led her to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Food & Agriculture Business at the University of Tennessee. She then ventured to New Zealand to work as an Assistant Herd Manager where she became an expert in calf rearing.

Returning to Maryland, Elise worked as a Farmers Market Coordinator and Farm Hand for a Dairy Goat Farm, where she cared for 100 milking goats and became an expert in their medical needs. Now as the Sanctuary Manager at FHF, Elise is dedicated to providing exceptional care for all the animals with her unmatched love and dedication. We are grateful to have her on our team!

It's an honor to care for the animals here - they're family and we have the best team caring for them!

Sierra Grucella

After graduating from Texas A&M University in 2022 with a Bachelors in Animal Science, Sierra worked as an equine vet tech at Texas Equine Hospital, specializing in challenging horses and medical cases. Her passion for animal welfare shines through her work at FHF, where she provides animals with a fighting chance and a forever home filled with love and proper care. Sierra finds great fulfillment in participating in rescue missions, which drives what she does every day.

Ariel Stewart

Ariel is our greenhouse manager who's been lending a helping hand on the ranch since 2022. Whether it's cleaning stalls, feeding, or spending extra one-on-one time with the animals, she's there to ensure every animal feels loved and cared for. Ariel finds it deeply fulfilling to form a bond with each unique animal and extend her knowledge on how to cater to their individual needs.

Noelle Nicholson

Originally from Frisco, Texas, Noelle is a compassionate individual with a lifelong passion for animals, especially horses.  Her 12 years of experience in competitive hunter jumping enhanced her skills and deepened her love for equine care. Currently, she applies her knowledge and kindness at FHF, where she actively supports our animal rescues. Noelle's dedication extends to her outdoor adventures and caring for her pets at home, showcasing her commitment to improving the lives of animals in need.

Christa Benfer

Christa graduated from Tarleton State University in May 2024 with a degree in Animal Science, focusing on animal production. In high school, she was involved in FFA, where she showed pigs. Last summer, Christa interned at an equine breeding barn in Weatherford, gaining valuable experience in equine reproduction. She has a passion for working with animals and enjoys witnessing their transformations at the farm. Christa is also eager to learn about different medications and treatments that contribute to animal care and well-being.

Ella Evans

Ella is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, where she earned her degree in Animal Science and Equine Science in 2025. During college, she volunteered with Patriot Paws, helping raise service dogs for disabled veterans, and completed an internship at an equine facility. At FHF, she finds immense joy working with animals of all kinds—and loves returning home to her two beloved dogs after a fulfilling day on the Ranch.

Alexandra Fredericks

Alexandra brings a lifelong love of animals to the FHF Sanctuary and ranch hand experience caretaking for horses. She also grew up helping with a large breed dog rescue. Her passion lies in outdoor work and hands-on care, where she thrives alongside the animals. In her spare time, Alexandra paints portraits of the very animals that inspire her most!

Byron Ray Fry

A Southeast Texas native and U.S. Navy retiree, Byron brings both heart and hard-earned experience to the FHF Sanctuary. Having grown up on a farm caring for everything from horses and cows to turkeys and rabbits, he has a natural way with animals. After retiring in 2022, he began volunteering at a therapeutic horsemanship facility. At FHF, Byron is grateful to continue making a difference in the lives of rescue animals while doing what he loves most: working outdoors and giving animals the care they deserve.

Erik Velasquez

Erik graduated from Texas A&M University–Kingsville in 2025 with a B.S. in Animal Science and minors in Chemistry, Biology, and Business Administration. While in college, he was accepted into the Multicultural Scholars Pre-Vet Experiential Learning Internship, where he gained exposure to veterinary practices outside the U.S.   On his free time he would shadow at local Veterinary Clinics. He worked as a ranch hand at the university farm, gaining hands-on experience with goats, sheep, cattle, chickens, pigs and rabbits. From his time working at the university to FHF has shown him the importance of compassion, patience, and persistence in animal care, as well as the impact veterinarians can have on both animals and the people who love them. These experiences have not only provided him skills and dedication but have also confirmed his passion for veterinary medicine and his commitment to making it his lifelong career.

Madisyn Friemel

I graduated with my B.S. in animal science & pre-veterinary studies from Oklahoma State University. During my time at OSU I volunteered at a local animal shelter and therapeutic riding center while interning at veterinary clinics. Growing up on a farm gave me a passion for animal care.
